Overview

Relay ("Relay," "we," "us") operates a broadcast app that lets publishers send messages to subscribers who chose to follow them, plus this website, which handles sign-up and billing for the paid plan. This policy describes what information we collect, why, and what control you have over it.

Information we collect

When you create an account, whether by email/password or by continuing with Google:

  • Email address and, if you sign up with email/password, a hashed password (we never see or store your password in plain text — that's handled by our authentication provider, Supabase Auth).
  • Display name and, if provided, a profile picture.
  • If you sign in with Google, the name, email, and profile picture Google shares with us as part of that sign-in.

As you use Relay:

  • The channels you subscribe to or follow, and any channels you create as a publisher.
  • Content you publish as a publisher — message text, images, files, and any other block content you add to a channel — and a logo image if you set one for your channel.
  • Interactions with content: poll votes, event RSVPs, and which messages you've viewed (used to show publishers aggregate open/view counts — we don't show a publisher exactly who read a given message).
  • A push-notification device token, if you enable notifications, used only to deliver notifications to your device.
  • Your notification and privacy preferences (e.g. whether your profile is public or private).
  • If you're on the paid plan, your subscription status and a customer reference used by our payment processor, Stripe — Relay does not receive or store your card details; Stripe handles payment directly.

How we use your information

  • To operate the core product: showing you the channels and messages you're subscribed to, letting publishers send messages, and delivering push notifications.
  • To maintain a compliance record for publishers: every message a publisher sends is logged (with a content hash and delivery outcome) so publishers have a permanent audit trail of what they broadcast, even if a message is later archived.
  • To provide customer support when you contact us.
  • To process payment for the paid plan, via Stripe.
  • To keep the service secure and prevent abuse, including responding to reports of objectionable content and blocking abusive accounts (see "Reporting and blocking" below).

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

Who we share information with

We use a small number of service providers (sub-processors) to run Relay. Each only receives what it needs to do its job:

  • Supabase — our database, authentication, and file storage provider. Nearly all account and content data described above is stored with Supabase.
  • Stripe — payment processing for the paid plan. Stripe receives your payment details directly; we never do.
  • Google — if you choose "Continue with Google" to sign in.
  • Expo / Apple / Google push services — to deliver push notifications to your device.
  • Finnhub — a market-data provider. If a publisher adds a stock-watchlist or chart block, the ticker symbols in it (e.g. "AAPL") are sent to Finnhub to fetch a live quote. No personal information is sent to Finnhub.
  • Google Cloud Platform — hosts our server and this website.

We don't share your information with anyone else, except where required by law.

Reporting and blocking

If you report a message or an account, we receive the reported content, your reason, and any note you add, so we can review it. If you block another account, we record that relationship so their content is hidden from your feed and channel list going forward — we don't notify the blocked account that you've blocked them.

Your rights and choices

  • Access and export — from Profile → Privacy & data, you can download a copy of your account data at any time.
  • Deletion — from the same screen, you can permanently delete your account. This removes your profile and cascades to the channels, messages, subscriptions, and preferences tied to it.
  • Correction — you can edit your display name, avatar, and preferences directly in the app at any time.
  • Notifications — you can turn push notifications on or off, and mute individual channels, from Profile → Notifications.
  • Visibility — you can set your profile to private from Profile → Privacy & data, which hides it and your activity from people you haven't approved.

Data retention

We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete it as described above. One exception: a publisher's compliance archive (the record of what was published and delivered) is retained even if a message or channel is later archived, so publishers have a permanent record of what they sent — this is a deliberate compliance feature of the product, not incidental retention.

Children's privacy

Relay is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use Relay after a change means you accept the updated policy.
